WAVE Artists Media Release
“Winnipeg, MB, March 13, 2013:
If you have never had the opportunity to go on the Interlake’s WAVE Artists’ Studio Tour, the Gallery Shop at the Winnipeg Art Gallery is bringing the tour to you. Over 30 artists from the Wave tour will be featured in the Shop from March 22 to April 21. Thaw: An Exhibition in Celebration of Spring will have an opening reception with the artists on Friday, March 22 from 6-9pm. All works are available for sale.
“The Wave Artists’ Studio Tour is the largest studio tour in Manitoba,” says Gallery Shop Manager Sherri Van Went. “Thousands of people throng to the Interlake to visit the artists’ studios, see where the works were created, and learn about the artistic process. Although the Gallery Shop cannot offer the complete experience, we can still feature the works themselves and give people a tempting taste of what they will see on the actual tour. The diversity of the show reflects the eclectic blend of artists and art forms found on the tour: ceramics, watercolor and oil paintings, glasswork, pencil and ink drawings, photography, wood carving, collage, fibre work, quilting, and jewelry.”
Each piece in the show was created especially for the theme. “ Thaw screams spring to me. Drip, drip, drip of melting ice. Warmth!” says Cathy Sutton, Wave artist. “We are thrilled to bring our work ‘to town’ for this show,” says fellow Wave artist CJ Tennant. “It is really exciting for us to gather in one place to celebrate the Wave’s 12th year.”
Participating artists in Thaw: An Exhibition in Celebration of Spring are Mike Adam, Madeleine Barg, Suzanne Barrow, Lorraine Bohn, Angel Calnek, Fred Casey, Kirk Creed, Ainslie Davis, Linda Dorian, Gordy Driscoll, Sandy Driscoll, Dianne Fitzmaurice, Milli Flaig-Hooper, Veronica G.
