What are the demands of freedom? Canada Reads winner Carmen Aguirre talks about her very personal experience in the underground resistance to Pinochet’s Chile.

Carmen Aguirre is a Vancouver-based actor and theatre artist who has written or co-written twenty plays, including Chile Con CarneThe Trigger, and The Refugee Hotel. She has received the Playwrights’ Theatre Best New Play Award and has been nominated for the Jessie Richardson Theatre Award, the Dora Mavor Moore Award and the prestigious Siminovitch Prize. Aguirre came to wider public attention for Something Fierce (D&M), an intensely personal narrative of her involvement with the Chilean underground resistance during the Pinochet era. Something Fierce was the Canada Reads winner this past spring. Aguirre lives in Vancouver BC.
