Opening night of Actual Gallery, July 24 2014
Actual Artists
July 24 – August 30, 2014
from http://www.actualgallery.ca
“The inaugural exhibition at Actual features work by eighteen of Winnipeg’s leading contemporary artists. In Actual Artists, each artist has chosen to create new work or select pieces indicative of their current focus. The result is a spectrum of intriguing, clever, subtle, and extraordinary work. Ranging in media from photography, printmaking, painting, textiles, collage, drawing, and ceramic, the exhibition is an exciting introduction to the roster of artists.
It is with great pleasure we announce the opening of Actual, a new commercial art gallery located on the edge of the historic Exchange District focusing solely on Winnipeg’s most innovative and creative artists. Actual is the source for leading contemporary art.
Taking its name from l’art actuel, the French term for art of the moment, Actual presents photography, drawing, painting, video, sculpture and mixed media. Actual will connect Winnipeg artists with collectors locally and beyond. Through presenting thoughtful exhibitions of critical art, the gallery also acts as a catalyst for new ideas. Actual will present 10-12 exhibitions annually, as well as lateral programming through partnerships with both local and national cultural organizations.
The inaugural exhibition, Actual Artists, opens Thursday, July 24, and runs through to August 30. The exhibition will offer an exceptional opportunity to see new work by the gallery’s stable of artists featuring:
