A collection of good words

These words are not necessarily photographic in nature;

I just like good words.

Fettling

Fettling:

tinkering with your car, tuning it up, refining it to make it go faster

Plip:

To remotely lock or unlock your car using the remote key fob thingy. (From Top Gear season 3 episode 1)

Dongle:

A USB “key” that has to plugged in to the computer/machine in order for it to function or become unlocked for full usage.

Kipple:

Kipple is a word coined by science fiction writer Philip K. Dick.
It refers to the sinister type of rubbish which simply builds up without any human intervention.
Eventually, one day, the entire world will have moved to a state of kipplization.

From Phil Dick’s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?””JR – Kipple is useless objects, like junk mail or match folders after you use the last match or gum wrappers of yesterday’s homeopape.

When nobody’s around, kipple reproduces itself.
For instance, if you go to bed leaving any kipple around your apartment, when you wake up the next morning there’s twice as much of it.
It always gets more and more.”

Cruft:

1. The dust that gathers underneath a bed

2. Shoddily constructed things

3. Bad computer code,

4. Accumulated physical or virtual junk.

Jim had to spend several days cleaning up the cruft left behind in the code by the newbie programmer.
Referring to any extraneous matter, either physical or ideological.
First used in describing the portions of a grain that cannot be utilized for any particular purpose, and are thus discarded from the harvest.

Many people allow cruft to gather in the attics and garages of their homes.

I have also heard of the term Crufter as a nicer term for a dumpster diver.

i.e. Bob and Sally went crafting and found a nice pair of roller skates in the back alley garbage bin.
