Helicopter machinery lift to the roof of the Richardson Building, Mar 4 2012

Mustang Helicopters lift some heavy H-Vac and cables to the roof of the Richardson building.

Much cheaper than building a tall crane, and also does not require shutting down a street for a week or so.

CBC has some communications equipment on the roof which needs an upgrade to the cooling system. Thats what this equipment is for.

There used to be a Helipad on the roof of the Richardson building, but in the late 1970’s they figured it would be better to rent the space out for telecommunications towers and such.

Almost all tall buildings in Winnipeg have towers and aerials on them. It's a good bit of space to rent out!

The five heavy bits of equipment that will be lifted.

Portage Ave east, Westbrook, and Lombard were all shut down for safety reasons.

That morning was quite cold

This Helicopter, owned by Mustang, has two separate engines, for safety.

Everyone had to wait until the tow trucks pulled two lonely cars away from the area

The helicopter lifting off created a -40 blizzard!

The lift rope was 90 feet long, because some of the towers on the roof of the Richardson building are almost that tall

It is getting harder and harder to get approval from all levels of Government to do a job like this.

In the future using a helicopter to lift heavy equipment in a built up urban environment may simply not be allowed.
